Trackers 2.0

2023 & 2022

I contributed to a project split into two phases, the first

involved overhauling the food tracker to align with the 2022 revamp and integrating additional functionalities for customizable food tracking.

Subsequently, the second focused on redesigning sections of the homepage in 2023, emphasizing tracker states and optimizing growth real estate to seamlessly integrate with the app's new version, along with assisting in crafting the design system for the updated vision and UI.

Overview

Food Tracker - 2022

In our efforts to revamp the food tracker, we conducted a quick user survey to pinpoint the issues with the current system:

1. Users expressed the need for customization options, feeling limited by the existing four meal choices offered by the app. They sought features that could more effectively accommodate their individual and dietary requirements.

2. Many users found it cumbersome to repeatedly track similar foods for specific meals throughout the week, desiring a more efficient tracking mechanism.

3. Users struggled to differentiate between meals and were confused by the equal importance of multiple calls to action, leading to usability issues.

4. The representation of calorie values in decimal and unconventional denominations posed challenges in both calculation and visual interpretation.

Challenges

1. We implemented features such as allowing users to select meals, set specific timings, and allocate calorie targets for each meal, thus providing greater personalization and control over their food tracking experience.

2. Smart suggestions were introduced based on user habits and coach recommendations, facilitating faster input of frequently consumed foods and expediting the tracking process.

3. A card-based interface for the food tracker was created, providing clear visual separation between meals and prioritizing CTAs to establish a clear hierarchy of actions.

4. The calorie values were simplified by rounding them to whole numbers, enhancing both ease of calculation and visual clarity.

Solutions

After launching the new food tracker, we provided users with the option to switch back to the old tracker if they preferred. However, only 5% of users chose to revert to the previous version. Upon further examination, we discovered that these users were mainly from an older age group. Their decision to stick with the old interface was primarily due to their familiarity with it, indicating resistance to change driven by established habits and comfort with the previous layout.

Impact

Homepage Redesign - 2023

The challenge with the trackers was their occupation of excessive space on the homepage. Our objective was to make them more compact. We would experiment with options through A/B testing to ascertain the most effective approach. The dilemma revolved around prioritizing the food tracker card while also ensuring visibility for other important cards like the weight card and CGM card. We developed various states of the card to encompass all potential scenarios for the testing phase.

Trackers

Existing dashboard

For the introduction, selling, renewal of services or products, and more we designated a fixed banner space on the dashboard. Initially positioned as the primary element, it garnered significant clicks. However, over time, click rates declined, prompting the introduction of pop-ups and bottom sheets to sustain user engagement. Despite their effectiveness in maintaining engagement, it became evident that these interventions compromised the user experience by obstructing the view of the screens.

With the evolution of the new app version, our objective was to introduce dynamic banners featuring two distinct visual styles. At any given moment, only one banner would occupy the homepage, ensuring a clutter-free interface. Upon closure, it seamlessly disappeared, allowing the homepage to adapt dynamically. The two styles included a end to end storytelling format and single-card banners, delivering engaging content to users in a carousel display when required.
